Website Development FAQ 2026
Clients ask us LOTs of questions on the road to updating their website. Here are a few that have been frequently asked by new clients in 2026.
Do you build websites from scratch, or only update existing ones?
We do both. Normally, our assessment process helps us determine if you need a new website or just a facelift or new/updated pages. Every project is different but we don’t push people to a new website unless there is a good business reason for it.
How long does it take to build a new website?
Our normal design and website development process takes 10-12 weeks depending on the project. We have published websites in as short as 30 days upon request.
What platform do you build websites on?
Most of our website builds are on WordPress but we also build on Squarespace and Wix upon request.
Do you design the website, or do I need to provide the design direction?
We do all of the design work for you (it’s included in the price) but we always take your design direction into account. That can be simple direction from you around colors, fonts, or images you like… and can include more detailed design ideas around the layout or how copy sits on the webpage. The design process is collaborative and we’ll support you however you want to be in this process with us. Some clients want direction for every step. Others, want to tell us directly what they want and we design accordingly.
What information do I need to provide to get started on a website project?
We will walk you through the entire process as part of our onboarding experience, but we do most of the lifting for you. We will talk with you about the ideal audience for your website (ideal client), how you offer your services, what clients can purchase or buy from you, how payment and scheduling are completed and more. We have a systematic approach to gathering data and information from you so it is fast and easy for you to gather. This part of the process is our zone of excellence and we make it easy on you so we get the right information on your website to covert prospective clients into actual clients efficiently.
What does the revision process look like?
We have several revision steps that you’re involved with from the beginning. Once we draft the copy, you will review and weigh in with notes/edits. When the site is moved to a development or staging site, you’ll review it with us again for look/feel. And, once it’s live you’ll give us your final notes for the development part of the project. If you retain us for website maintenance, we can make changes for you then as well.
Will my website be mobile-friendly and optimized for search engines from the start?
Yes, absolutely. The work we do to write the website plants the SEO seeds for both traditional search (Google search) as well as AI visibility. Nothing with SEO is instant, please know that, but the site is optimized from the beginning so the marketing that follows can drive sustainable traffic to your site for years to come.
Can you update or redesign my existing website without starting over completely?
Yes, absolutely assuming that there are no technical details interfering with making an update. For example, we had a website project this winter that was 100% hand coded from a past developer. That website had to start over because the developer took the code with him… something like that is an outlier, but it happens. Assuming your site is technically sound, updating an existing site is not only doable, but often cost-effective. This is something we explore in our consultation, please bring it up if that is important to you.
Will I be able to update my own website after it's built, or do I need to come back to you for changes?
That is up to you. We do not believe in holding the site from its owner, nor do we want to prevent you from making edits. It’s your website. 🙂 From my point of view, you should be able to make copy edits, change images or move things around as you want. That said, the technical details of how to manage a website are not as simple as updating a Word doc and you need to know what you’re doing so you don’t make changes that you can’t fix. And, we offer website maintenance to every client after their site is built for a nominal feel so you don’t have to worry.
Do you write the copy for the website, or do I provide it?
We write the copy for you (I actually charge more if the client wants to write everything themselves… it’s just faster this way!) BUT, we interview you for all of the details so it’s a collaborative process. We do the heavy lifting for the writing and your role is to approve it all before it goes live.
Do you handle website hosting and maintenance after the site is launched?
We will help you acquire hosting so you are the true owner of your website. This process is different from how many of our colleagues do things… I simply believe that you are the business owner and there is no need for me to take that from you. Hosting is a simple part of the website build and we’ll guide you through the process so it’s easy. We manage all of the configurations (email/HIPPA email, domain connection etc.) but you own the host so you are free to manage your website as you desire in the future. We do offer website maintenance services at an annual rate for a nominal fee.
What happens if something breaks on my website after launch?
Please tell us and we’ll investigate it what’s needed to fix it.
Do you build websites specifically for therapists and mental health practices?
We build websites for many different businesses, but have an expertise in the mental health space. The breakdown of our clients is 80/20 mental health to all other services. We’ve built sites for lawyers, mechanics, environmental groups, finance and investment firms, authors, doctors and more.
Can you help me with branding — like my logo, colors, and overall look — as part of the website project?
Yes, branding and logos are a part of every website discussion. Some sites need a more formal logo and overall design kit and Jessie on our team is our go-to for that. The Crownsville Media logo was recently updated with her support and we LOVE the maturity she brought to the look and feel. If you want this extra touch, let’s discuss it so we can include it in the bid.
Is SEO built into the website from the beginning, or is that a separate service?
SEO is built into every website development project from the beginning. Ongoing SEO is something we can discuss after your website launches so you have a good understanding of what’s needed in your marketing for ongoing growth in Google and AI engines.
Do you work with e-commerce sites?
Yes we do. Most of the WordPress websites that have stores are using WooCommerce, connected to Stripe for checkout. Squarespace also uses Stripe for checkout. E-commerce sites usually have specific needs related to products, inventory, delivery (via the mail or email delivery) and we work with all of it.
Do you build funnels and help with email marketing?
Yes we do. Many clients want to deliver free gifts to entice subscribers to sign up for their list… all the way to funnels for webinar, course or other product offerings. We have expertise in sequence marketing and funnels and would be happy to help you design or implement yours.
Can I see examples of your work?

How much does a new website cost in 2026?
This is the question everyone wants an answer to! The truth is that there is a range of prices and it depends on the specific site requirements. Most sites start around $3500 and go up depending on the site’s goals for lead generation, functionality (do you have a store, course, online assessments etc.). Our 2025 costs for websites ranged from $3500-$17K (it was a VERY big and very special website). To get your pricing, we meet to discuss your needs and then we send you a bid. Everyone is different, but this gives you a range.
